How to print using ICC profiles in Adobe Photoshop. CMS using Photoshop CS, CS2, CS3

These are the basic steps to using CMS with Photoshop CS2.

1.
Calibrate your monitor.
2.
Open the printer driver and set the Color management to Application managed color.
Print preview to On. (It is a terrible preview, but it shows the printer settings.)
Advanced Paper settings to Autorotate if you have a roll feed attached.
Calibrate your printer and paper for Best and Max DPI quality.
3.
Open CS2 without an image.
Select Edit, Color settings. From the settings drop down list, select Preserve profile.
Click OK.
Load an image.
If you get an Embedded Profile mismatch box, select Use the embedded profile.
4.
The following steps assume you are using HP paper.
5.
For example: I will print on HP Premium Plus Photo Satin paper at Best quality.
Select the HP DJ 30/130 - Photo Satin - DRV profile. (HP30Sb_drv.icc)
Resize, edit, etc.
6.
Select File, Print with Preview.
If the Button below the Page Setup button reads More Options, click it.
From the drop down list below the preview, Select Color Management.
From the Print selections, select Document
Under Options, Select Let Photoshop determine the colors.
From the Printer Profile drop down list, select the ICC profile for your paper.
In this example:
HP DJ 30/130 - Photo Satin - DRV
Rendering intent should be Perceptual for photo type images.
Black Point Compensation should be selected.
7.
Click the page setup button to confirm your paper size, type, orientation and source.
Ensure the colour management is set to Application managed colour.
Your paper type is: HP Premium Plus Photo Satin and the print quality is Best.
8.
Now Print.
9.
If you have used HP paper and the matching ICC profile, your print should look close to the screen as set above in CS2.
10.
This next step is very important.
11.
Do not adjust your monitor, the printer or CS2's printer settings.
12.
If the image is not quite right, adjust the image. Save the image and now reprint it using the same settings above.
13.
Now you have only one variable to adjust. The image.
14.
If the print is still not correct, for better colour control get a custom ICC profile. If you are not satisfied, look at the page about free ICC profiles.
